This square, together with the Town Hall square or Plaza Mayor and the surrounding streets, constituted the commercial centre of Puertollano. Here is the spring of the fountain del Pilar or well of the Borricos. At the end of the 19th century the water was channelled towards the Fuente de los Cinco Caños (Fountain of the Five Spouts). This fountain originally belonged to the comendador as it it was in the possessions of his palace. Later it became public and it was where the citizens came to fetch water until the end of the 19th century.
