Monument to the Fallen at Work (widows)

Stone sculptural group representing the fallen at work. Located in front of the church of Santa Bárbara del Poblado.
Popularly known as the "Monument to the Widows", this sculptural group was erected after the explosion of firedamp in 1953 that took the lives of 11 miners in the Calvo Sotelo mine. After a popular subscription, in 1958 it was inaugurated next to the Municipal Market and represents at the front a woman holding the body of her dead miner husband. Two other women stand in front of it. After being dismantled and stored in a municipal warehouse, the sculptural group was re-erected in 1998 but in a different location: in front of the church of Santa Bárbara, patron saint of the miners, in the Poblado
