Mining and Coalfield Museum

Explore industrial heritage with a towering headframe, rich geology, and an underground mine gallery in a unique geopark setting.

The Mining and Coalfield Museum is one of the finest examples of industrial regeneration and archaeology. It is based on one of the most important former mining operations: the North Mine. Located in the North Shaft Park, it is dominated by the imposing 30-metre-high headframe, a witness to thousands of days of work deep underground. The complex is the heart of the ‘Volcanes de Calatrava’ Geopark, boasting unrivalled geological and palaeontological riches. The interior of the museum is divided into three sections that describe the geological periods of the basin, the mining tasks and techniques, and the history of the mining basin. The jewel in the crown is the underground mine gallery.
