Fountain of the Five Spouts

Fountain of the Five Spouts

Water fountain with five spouts, from the spring in the Plaza de la Tercia.
In existence since the end of the 19th century, this public fountain was the meeting place for the people of Puertollano to collect water on a daily basis. It was originally a private fountain, belonging to the Comendador de Puertollano. It later became a public fountain and was located in the current Plaza de la Tercia, where the spring is located. The current structure dates from 1901 and the water comes from the spring in the current Plaza de la Tercia. The Andalusian tiles that cover the lower part of the walls date from the end of the 20th century. It has five spouts and a bench for the users to rest. The people from Puertollano used to come here to fetch water and bring their pitchers, jugs and bottles, sometimes helped by beasts, which were tied to rings, which can still be seen on the outside wall. In summer, the queue stretched as far as Calle Aprisco. Since the 1980s the fountain has been closed due to leaks in the spring water.
